Celebrating 2023 NAIDOC Week: Honouring the Journey of Roderick Simpson
This National NAIDOC Week, we’re celebrating the incredible journey of our own Roderick Simpson. Born in Wiluna, Roderick is a proud member of the Wajarri group, carrying forward the legacy of one of the world’s oldest, continuous living cultures.
Roderick’s life is a testament to resilience and adaptability. From the rugged landscapes of Pilbara and Kimberley to the bustling city life of Darwin, he’s experienced it all, enriching his life and broadening his perspectives.
Now residing in Perth, Roderick is not just an employee but a cherished grandfather. His heart is filled with love for his family, and his spirit is uplifted by the laughter of his grandchildren.
His childhood, spent amidst nature, reflects the deep bond between Aboriginal peoples and the land. His career path, marked by resilience, speaks volumes about his adaptability in the face of change.
Roderick’s wisdom for the younger generation is to embrace change, seek stability, and never stop learning. He’s actively involved in his community and sees a promising future, with native title sparking a resurgence of work in his area.
Join us in honouring Roderick this NAIDOC Week, as we celebrate the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
