“I was born in a small town in East Java, Indonesia. As a kid, I had a variety of passions in my life, but I liked to think they all lead to one main area: the creative one. I started drawing when I was two years old; my first canvas was my bedroom walls, much to my parents’ dismay. I graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fashion from University of Huddersfield in 2011.
As a young designer, I like to think of myself as a conventionalist with occasional thoughts of absurdity: My design is all about classic silhouette that’s a little bit nonchalant, effortless in attitude, but I want every piece to be strong – it must have a point of view, a reason to be. I also appreciate ultra-contemporary style and the idea of minimalism and anonymity, that my design should be able to blends seamlessly into any woman’s wardrobe. My version of luxury is a little less stuffy; it’s more casual but I understand the craft and respect the artistry. It’s about clothes with integrity, I guess. I do think that our girls don’t spend too much time in front of the mirror, so my concerns are really not about fashion but those little nuances in cuts and how a woman can wear a piece of clothing, how the fabric moves and reveals. I’d rather simplify, so it’s more about the precise cutting and classic silhouettes.”
